Villa Salvini is a fine country house near Vatican City, situated in a quarter of Rome with a surprisingly rural atmosphere.
If the colonnades of St. Peter's were not so close you could almost forget that you are in the capital city of Italy. A huge garden of some 10,000 mq surrounds the completely private and comfortable house. Figs and olives, pines, palm trees and century plants grow on well-kept English lawn. Once an antique farmstead in the countryside close to Rome, the estate was stylishly renovated approximately 30 years ago. While the city has continued to sprawl in the meantime, the original and almost rural atmosphere here has been preserved. Vast cornfields still surround the estate beyond the fences of its large garden.
Villa Salvini has a shady loggia and is painted in Roman red. The house features masterfully decorated interiors, offering all modern comfort. The villa's show-piece is its magnificent living area which covers nearly the entire ground floor with numerous armchairs, settees, and several doors exiting into the garden. Both this large room containing a marble fireplace and the adjoining dining room are furnished with fine antiques dating from the late 19th century.
The luxurious furniture belongs to the owner, a descendant of the old-established and distinguished Salvini family, which is well-known especially for Tommaso Salvini, the most renowned actor of 18th-century Italy. The combined kitchen and living room is spacious, modern and fully equipped. The upper floor has five bedrooms, which can be made up with a double bed or two single beds. Every bedroom is equipped with a fan (installation of air-conditioning is planned). You can choose among several beautiful bathrooms, some of which are tiled with marble.
The villa also has an original 60ies-style taverna, which, with its own bar, serves as an excellent location for parties. The taverna provides not only just the right ambience for your party, but it can also be used as an apartment in its own right for two people. It has separate access to the garden and, in addition to its spacious living room with round tables, features its own kitchenette and bathroom. If you travel, for example, with a babysitter or other staff, you can provide them with their own apartment, and they are still close by.
The spacious villa is laid out in two floors:
The ground floor has an entrance hall, a large living room with fireplace and exit to the garden, a dining room, a modern combined kitchen and living room with fireplace and exit to the garden, and one guest toilet.
On the first floor there are five double rooms (with a sleeper-sofa for one person), three bathrooms (two of them with a shower, one with a double-sized tub and hydro-massage), and one guest toilet. In the basement there is an apartment with a taverna/party room with a sleeper-sofa for two, a kitchenette and a bathroom (with shower).
The main building is situated in the middle of an enormous park-like garden which boasts a circular dance floor and a BBQ area. On the fringes of the property there are two small houses; one is inhabited by the couple who minds the gate, the other by the owner of the premises. These two houses can be accessed separately; in other words, the garden is fully available to the guests of the Villa and their privacy remains unimpeded. An what is more: With the gate keeper and the owner present, not only is the security of the house well taken care of, but they also provide the famous Italian hospitality and good service.
If you wish, a typical Roman-style dinner or wine tasting, served by a sommelier can be arranged for you - in the romantically lit garden or by the fireside in the taverna. If you prefer an elegant dinner at an exquisitely laid table, the stylish rooms of the house provide the right setting. If you like sports you can use the outdoor pool and the tennis courts in the adjacent private sports club (300 m), which also features a pizzeria (pizza to go is also available).
Villa Salvini is located north west of Rome, close to the Gianicolo/Trastevere hill. Leaving the rather modest districts on Rome's periphery behind, just drive past the cornfields to find the tree-lined district with newer villas. A narrow 800-metre driveway leads up to Villa Salvini. It is not serviced by public transportation and there are no street lamps. Unless you bring your own means of transportation, we suggest you take at taxi to the nearest bus stop (1 km), to the underground (7 km) or into the city centre.
The nearest stores for your daily needs are 1 km away. The road leading to the highway is 2.5 km away, and the road to the airport Fiumicino 5 km. It is only a 10-minute drive to Vatican City and the centre of the bustling Eternal City.
