Property Description
La Sorgente is a typical Tuscan "casa colonica" (stone farmhouse), with two floors.
Our home is located outside of Cortona. Siena, Perugia. Assisi, Florence, Spoleto, Arezzo, and San Sepolcro (to mention only a few) are all within about one hour drive or less.
Innumerable small hilltop towns, barely known to tourists, are within easy reach, waiting for you to discover them. Rome is two hours away.
The view, which can be enjoyed most typically from a wonderful stone terrace with a grapevine-shaded pergola (or from the loggia), includes olive trees, old hamlets, cypresses, pine trees, a castle turret ("the Palazzone"), and wild woods.
The windows from all the rooms have access to this view.
The top floor is reached by the original external ancient stone staircase (as well as by a new internal one).
There is a loggia at the top of the stone stairs, leading into a living room. This used to be the family room and has a fully functional large stone fireplace that was used for cooking in the old days.
This floor of the house has two bedrooms, both with queen beds. One bedroom has a private bathroom (shower) and the other bedroom uses a separate bathroom (shower). A small intermediate room can be used for a small child because it contains a crib.
There is an internal staircase between the upper and lower floors as originally the ground floor was used to house the animals and was not connected to the top floor.
As the ground floor had multiple uses, it also had several entrances, which have been preserved. Thus, the four rooms on the ground floor all have direct exit to the stone terrace in front of the house.
Three of the ground floor rooms are also connected internally, and they are, sequentially:
The kitchen,which contains an ancient manger (cleaned up, of course, and polished) in massive chestnut, and a large round chestnut table seating eight comfortably.
The kitchen is equipped with all the basic modern appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, a gas cooking top, and an oven); it has all that is necessary for cooking after shopping for delicacies at the local shops and markets.
Next to the kitchen is a room that can be used as a dining room, but which nobody seems to use as such because the kitchen (this being Italy!) often is the focus of the house. The room also has a desk and telephone and can double as a study. There is also a bathroom here (with bathtub and shower), which serves the downstairs.
Next to this room is a bedroom with twin beds. Finally there is another bedroom contiguous to the rest of the house, which has twin beds, and a private bathroom. This room is quite charming, giving a feeling of a simple monk's cell and is most private. Ideal for writing manuscripts.
A fourth external bathroom, which also contains a washer and dryer, is directly accessible to pool users.

The area is rural and therefore very quiet. The house is reached by a small gravel roadbut it is at the same time within easy distance of Cortona ("Citta` d'arte"; 10 minutes) and Camucia (7 minutes)which is a small town at the foot of the Cortona hillthat can satisfy excellently all modern necessities. In addition there is one market day in Camucia and one in Cortona. Thusthe location has the best of all possible worlds: rural qualities and seclusionwhile being within easy distance of art and of daily conveniences.
The house is fully furnished with antique and semi-antique furniture to maintain the proper ambiance. On the other handit has been fully modernized. The house is centrally heated (gas furnace) and it has running hot water in all the bathrooms. Linens are provided and a cleaning service can be obtained for a fee. Babysittingcooking and cleaning can all be arranged forif desired.
The swimming pool (6m by 12m) is conveniently located on an olive terrace above the house and is not visible from the houseeven though it is only a few steps awaythus not disturbing the classic Tuscan view of the countrysidewhich can also be enjoyed from the pool terrace.
The manager’s name is Giovanni. He is an English speaking local who will welcome youshow you the house and take care of any problems that arise. He is also a certified tour guide and would be happy to schedule any tours that may interest you.
