Property Description
Location & Description

Convento de Santo António was founded in 1606 as a Franciscan convent. The house looks towards the sea over the salt pans which are afeature of this part of the eastern Algarve coast. For the last one hundred years the convent has been a private residence and now accepts house guests. Tavira is one of themost beautiful towns of the Algarve which has been able to maintain its identity as a fishing port and escaped the worst of tourism development. The town is situated on both sides of the river Gilão which is crossed by two old low bridges. In the old town the streets are lined by numerous old houseswith fine doorways and carved coats of arms. Along the river bank are fine gardens lined with cafes. Inside Convento de Santo Antonio there are very beautiful cloisters and the architecture has produced the calm and tranquility associated with it's former use. The home sits 500 metres from the centre of Tavira and therefore is suitable for persons not wishing to drive. In the town there are many good restaurants serving the fish caught by the local boats.
The convent has seven letting bedrooms and guests have the use of lounges and the dining room where meals can be served on request. The house has its own private chapel and there is a swimming pool.
