A spectacularly restored Manor House Away from the noise and stresses of Lisbon is this gorgeous manor looking over its green valley. As you approach the Quinta from the road it looks like many of the other manor houses in the Portuguese countryside but as soon as you enter the house the artistic talent of the owners is immediatley evident.The owners, Susana and Andreas Grosse Entrup-Murschenhofer, have each furnished different bedrooms in their prefered individual style. Susana's preference being traditional whilst Andreas chose modern contemporary. For example, you find in the "Room of the Angel" a bed and wardrobe that once belonged to the Royal Palace of Sintra. This furniture was in many pieces when found and has been lovingly restored to its original glory by Portuguese craftsmen.Enter another bedroom and you will find ultra modern furniture with a bed which is one of only three copies of an exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A previous owner of the Quinta was an eccentric Brazilian who planted the specimen trees near the house, he also kept two lions on the estate. The memoryof these lions is kept alive in the swimming pool where the water pours into the pool through the mouth of a lion.In the outbuildings there is a large old double olive press which is at present being restored. This is going to be a feature in the restaurant which is shortly to be opened in the outbuilding. Attractions The house overlooks the extensive land, which is full of specimen and fruit trees, and here you will find footpaths for an enjoyable walk. Available at the house are saloon cars and 4 wheel drive vehicles forrent on a daily basis. In addition, there are youngsters motor bikesand a quadro bike. For the more energetic there are mountain bikes. If required, riding can be arranged. Or, if you prefer, sailing in the sheltered waters of the estuary of the river Tagus. There are eight double bedrooms in the house and prices include both breakfast and afternoon tea. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms. In addition, there is a room designated as 'The Children's Room'. The house is situated 25 kilometres north of Lisbon near the new motorway system. This provides easy access to the capital, Sintra, Cascais, the road to the north and the crossings of the Tagus River to explore the Costa Azul. There are many golf courses within 30 minutes by car.
