A magnificent, 11,000 square foot log lodge. The Emily A. Bed & Breakfast overlooks a private lake with a waterfall on the Clearwater River, 5 miles North of Seeley Lake, Montana.
The setting is spectacular: the Emily A. commands a sunny valley tucked between ranges of the Rocky Mountains at the headwaters of the Clearwater River. Wide porches and woodland paths offer you the peace and vitality of the Montana wilderness coupled with the gracious hospitality of the Old West.
The Emily A. is built in the center of the Circle Arrow ranch. It looks as if it has always been there -- and in a way it has: the larch logs were harvested from nearby hills. Broad picture windows frame views of an eight-acre lake, wildflower-filled meadows, the Clearwater River, and rugged mountains of the Mission and Swan Ranges.
Enjoy Your Days & Nights in First Class
The Emily A. is named for Marilyn's grandmother, Emily Alvis Stinson Shope, who came to Montana in 1893 to help found the Boulder School for the Deaf Mute. As a young widow, she supported her seven children by running one of Missoula's first board and rooming houses.
The lodge's interior spaces are generous and comfortable. Furnishings include a world-class collection of sports memorabilia and many fine pieces of Western art.
You'll wake to the songs of meadowlarks and the smells of fresh bread baking. Breakfast is served in the spacious sunny dining area.
If it is relaxation you're looking for, our porches offer just the right spot for getting lost in a novel or snoozing the afternoon away. And Big Sky nights are not to be missed: you'll be 4,000 feet closer to the starts.
When evenings are cool, you can meet around the hearth. The stones of our two-story fireplace have their own stories to tell. They are the geological specimens gathered by the Peterson family over several lifetimes.
The television room/library and adjoining atrium offer more private getaways.
