Cabo San Lucas is recognized as one of the top destinations in the world for big game fishing.
There are few places that can compare to deep sea fishing off the Baja peninsula.
The waters off Cabo have both an abundance and the greatest variety of species of marlin plus dorado, bonito, wahoo, and rooster fish. See the sports fishing guide
Often called the marlin capital of the world, this former haunt of Ernest Hemingway yields a record-breaking number of catches each year-more than 40,000. They range from 100 pounds to over half a ton. But there's more than marlin in these waters. Over 850 species, including dorado, tuna, swordfish, and snapper, compete for a turn at your hook.
Not surprisingly, Los Cabos is host to some of the biggest international fishing tournaments, such as the Bisbee, which has paid out over $1 million, and sportfishing packages here are almost as common as the creatures themselves.
Marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna are the big catches here.
Rent a moderately priced 20 to 24 foot panga or a luxury fishing yacht. Charter arrangements can be made in advance through tour operators, local suppliers, hotels and fishing fleets. Half day, full-day or multi-day fishing excursions are easily booked, as are upscale trips offering live-aboard luxury accommodations and gourmet meals.
Los Cabos anglers can expect a full-day trip to cost about $400 per boat, including tackle, bait and food. Half-day trips in smaller boats cost between $80 and $120. Or team up with other single anglers to rent a boat.
