Property Description
The house itself is most solid, built of the typical local stone thus retaining its countryside character perfectly. It is surrounded by a terrace on three sides with two sitting areas, one on the West side with splendid view to Lucca, the other one opening to an outside barbecue and oven for bread and pizza.
The surrounding private area is of some 10.000 m² with olive and fruit trees.
You will already be pleased with the building and its location. What makes this house truly exceptional in the end is its interior.
Exquisite architecture, divided internally in a way that is as charming as it is functional and comfortable. The furniture consists of well selected local antiques, the colours chosen give evidence of the owners’ excellent taste –all in all one of the most inviting places I have seen in Tuscany - “accogliente” as the Italians would say.
Kitchen and bath rooms have the most recent equipment and are, beyond that, very elegant.
Beautiful terracotta floors with very good rugs, huge open fireplace, a cosy reading corner, well selected pictures and old coppers, beamed ceilings – everything “ fits” in this very airy and bright house and will offer you an opportunity to spend relaxed holidays in an exceptionally charming atmosphere. It is more than obvious that the owners have not only invested a lot of money and elbow grease but at the same time their truly exquisite taste.
In my view it has thus become one of the places one falls in love with from the very first moment!
You are invited to walk on the paths between the lovely vineyards and old olive groves. Golf courses in Italy can be played all year round; the nearest course would be Montecatini Golf, another 4 courses are in some 45 minutes reach.
The famous Lucchese Villas with their well taken care of parks and Mediterranean gardens full of the lemon trees and terracotta vases so typical for the area are in the closest neighbourhood.
The romantic town of Montecarlo, known also for its good wines one can buy in the vineries around, can be reached in a few minutes.
Who wants to “spoil oneself” could go to mundane bath Montecatini. For centuries illustrious guests have been drinking the well known waters served in the luxurious halls ore have taken a walk in the splendid gardens.
Nowadays people do not just go there to cure their liver, the modern wellness programme comprises health in general - relaxation and esthetical aspects – maybe you would like to fit such a relaxing day into your schedule.
Who does not know Lucca yet will quickly give in to its charm. To begin with it might be sufficient just to follow one’s nose, enjoy the fascination and just try and memorize all impressions. From there on it might be helpful to rent one of the audio guides available at the tourist information stands (Piazzale Verdi, Piazza Santa Maria) or to get some reading material. At Piazza Santa Maria there are several “rent a bike”, best suited for a better and faster exploration of the city. Motorcars have been banned from the city centre.
Who really wants to get away from everything should plan an excursion to the enchanting region of the Garfagnana, part of the province of Lucca; there the quietness and contemplativeness of times long gone by have been preserved, the area is of breathtaking beauty.
The beautiful beaches one can reach from Lucca in less than 30 minutes are an attraction not just in summer; in autumn, winter and early spring they also invite for relaxing walks where you can breathe pure health and build on your own personal wellness programme.
Just around the corner is the home of Pinocchio. His inventor, Carlo Lorenzini, also known under the name of Collodi, stems from the town that carries this name; some 100 years ago he wrote “Pinocchio’s adventures”. After the Holy Bible and the Koran it has become the most read book in the world. Just below the village of Collodi, worth to be visited lies the Pinocchio Park where all his adventures are displayed and invite us to be pulled into his miraculous world. A must for kids - and grown ups as well!
In July/August the Puccini Festivals take place in Torre di Lago on the Massaciuccoli lake some 20 kilometres West of Lucca. It was here where Puccini has lived in his villa which is now his mausoleum. The open air opera is a spectacular experience, where the romantic illumination of dawn over the lake and the dark blue silhouette of the mountains form the enlarged background scenery. Many first class singers form the ensemble.
In March the gardens of private villas of Sant Andrea di Compito and its surrounding (some 12 kilometres Southeast of Lucca) are opened for the public for the annual Camellia Exposition. Impressive camellias trees, some of which more than 100 years old, are presented to the visitors.
We should not forget the Carnival at Viareggio!
