Costa Rica weather by month charts
A trip to Costa Rica during February is like a visit to the Garden of Eden - with the added attraction of miles and miles of spectacular beaches. February weather is just right for countless things to do in the surf, on the sand and throughout the lush tropical rain forests that are close at hand. From boogie boarding at dawn to horseback riding at dusk, the weather will not get in the way of having an enjoyable day. A nice assortment of special events rounds out the February calendar.
Costa Rica has many geographical features that give it many microclimates. While February weather conditions are extremely favorable and quite similar along the immediate Pacific coast (Guanacaste and Puntarenas), the Central Valley (San Jose) and more mountainous regions are not as warm during the day and tend to cool down more during the evening. The average February temperature range in Puntarenas on the Pacific coast is 77ºF (low) to 91ºF (high). Since February is at the height of the dry season, a mere 0.1 inch of rainfall is the average and sunshine is plentiful. Although humidity throughout most of this coastal country can be high, February readings are the lowest of the year and average in the 60-69% range at the shore and in San Jose, where it is somewhat cooler and dryer. Wind speed is quite steady throughout the year and averages 6 mph in February. Sea surface temperature can fluctuate, depending on the currents, but ranges between 76-85ºF at Guanacaste and Puntarenas in February.
An annual, 10-day celebration that reenacts the battle between the indigenous people (los indios) of inland Costa Rica, disguised as diablitos (little devils), and the Spanish conquistadors (portrayed by a bull) is scheduled to begin on February 15, 2012. Participants wear colorful, traditional costumes and beautifully carved wooden masks as they perform dances in the Boruca village of Rey Curre, south of San Isidro de El General in North Puntarenas. There are fireworks, food, lots of native crafts for sale and a perfect opportunity to photograph and experience the local culture.

While Costa Rica is known for its splendid sights and amazing things to do, it is also home to tomorrow’s talented musicians who will soon grace the world stage. Fans of classical music will not want to miss this event in San Jose, February 5 - 11, 2012. No doubt, concert goers might get a sneak peek as the next Itzhak Perlman or Yo-Yo Ma tries to wow the crowd as their fingers and bows dance along the strings of a cello, viola or violin.

From February 9 - 13, 2012, dancers from around the world will strut their stuff at the Barceló San Jose Palacio. Professionals and avid amateurs in all age groups will compete for bragging rights, scholarships, trophies, prize money and the admiration and applause of those who watch them perform in the ballroom. Fans of hot TV shows like “Dancing with the Stars” can now live their dancing dreams as they watch the pros - in person - tackle the passionate Argentine tango, the sizzling salsa and the quirky quickstep. The event wraps up with a formal "Dance for World Peace" gala, where everyone in black tie and ball gowns will eat, drink and dance the night away.

Since the temperature across the country in February is generally in the warm to hot range, winter clothes won‘t be needed. But for those sensitive to chills, a light sweater or jacket could come in handy during an evening in San Jose or at a strongly air conditioned restaurant. Although there are lots of stores throughout the country, it might be best to pack some must-have personal products and footwear suitable for the planned activities. For example, sturdy sandals that can withstand the rocks and do well in the water should be brought along for a trip to explore waterfalls or ride a whitewater raft. No matter where the visitor roams, bring along a camera. And if sea cave exploration is on the must-do list, make sure it is waterproof.
