Columbia is a lovely tiny waterfront town on the Scuppernong River. Throughout the area you'll find many boat ramps, and if you bring a canoe or kayak you can put in right at the cottage. Or head to the Kitty Hawk and rent sea kayaks, go hang-gliding, parasailing, tandem hang-gliding.

Spent a day at the beach, or visit historic Roanoke Island and the Festival Park which includes the long-running "Lost Colony" play about our first European residents.

Fishing, birdwatching, hiking, boating, hunting (duck, goose, deer, turkey and bear), shopping, dining - the options are plenty.
