Our rue de Grenelle studio apartment is ideally located in the very heart of Paris: the most sought after and elegant "quartier" - St. Germain des Pres. Within easy walking distance are the Musee d'Orsay, the Louvre, the Musee Rodin, the Jardin des Tuileries, and the Hotel Matignon (official residence of the French Prime Minister). For those who are more interested in shopping than sightseeing, the immediate area is also full of famous designer shops (Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton...), as well as lesser known but equally chic Parisian boutiques. And because Saint Germain des Pres is home to so many of the city's most fashionable people, the streets themselves provide a glimpse of elegant Parisian style.
Rue de Grenelle is one of my favourite streets in Paris. It starts at the Champs de Mars (Eiffel Tower) and the Rue Cler area (the famous street market), crosses the Invalid (Napoleon's tomb), continues to go through the Ministry area where beautiful sumptuous old town houses hide behind unpretentious-looking doors. It finally comes into the St. Germain des Pres area, where my apartment is located, and it ends at the "Place de Croix Rouge" where the Celine's "Taurus" statue stands.
Between my apartment and the Place de Croix Rouge, this part of rue de Grenelle is full of shoe shops (Christian Louboutin, Serge Rossi, Patrick Cox, Iris (a well kept secret only for savoury Parisian shoppers), as well as designer boutiques (Prada, Ferragamo, Sonia Rykiel, YSL, Moschino). Our immediate area is also full of cafes, restaurants, boulangeries, supermarkets. banks, post office, etc.
My apartment is in a "Directoire" style building (19th century): simple, clean with old Paris charm. Next to the entry door, is the best cheese shop in the neighbourhood ("Barthelemy") and a beautiful rose shop. A long courtyard separates the apartment building from the street noise, and a large and clean staircase will lead you to the apartment. We did a complete renovation in spring 2003 and continue to make amelioration every now and then. All space is well used, and there is plenty of storage place as well. We tried out best to make our apartment feel spacious, comfortable, and cheerful.
The big window of the apartment looks out on Parisian roofs and a small garden next door. The double sized bed is a top brand one, and the dinning table can be unfolded to suit 4 persons. The kitchen is equipped with microwave, coffee maker, tea maker, electric cookers, and many utensils. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, and we supply the "extra soft" towels. Other modern convenience includes a cable TV with English channels, refrigerator with freezer, washer and dryer, telephone with answer machine, etc... We also left our recommandations for local restaurants, and places for going out in the apartment. We can be always reached by our celle phone during your stay in Paris, and we are always more than happy to come meet our guests.
