Charming and quiet, this one-bedroom apartment is on the fourth floor (with elevator) of a fine nineteenth-century building, and overlooks the cobblestone courtyard. Suitable for one to three guests, it combines original features such as wood floors, tall ceilings, and two fireplaces with modern amenities such as a walk-in shower and a laptop computer with internet access.
The Rue du Bac is widely regarded as one of Paris's best addresses. Running south from the Seine river, it passes through the heart of Saint Germain des Pres, the most sought after and expensive "quartier" in Paris, and extends all the way down to Montparnasse.
Our apartment on the Rue du Bac is between the Seine and the Boulevard Saint Germain. Within easy walking distance are the Musee d'Orsay, the Louvre, the Musee Rodin, the Jardin des Tuileries, and the Hotel Matignon (official residence of the French Prime Minister). For those who are more interested in shopping than sightseeing, the immediate area is also full of famous designer shops (Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton...), as well as lesser known but equally chic Parisian boutiques. And because Saint Germain des Pres is home to so many of the city's most fashionable people, the streets themselves provide a glimpse of elegant Parisien style.
Our Apartment:
Two huge, dark green doors on the Rue du Bac open to reveal a small, private cul-de-sac containing several 19th-century buildings.
Our apartment is on the fourth floor of the first building, looking out onto a central courtyard. There is an elevator, an elegant and spacious stairwell, and only one other apartment on the same floor. All the common areas of the building are maintained to a high standard by the charming and very capable Mme. Teixeira, our concierge.
At 50 square meters (about 500 square feet), the apartment may not be large, but it is wonderfully cozy, charming, and authentic. The floors are polished wood, the ceilings are tall (about nine feet, or 3 meters), there are four windows (all looking out onto the central courtyard), and two (non-working) fireplaces - one in the living room, one in the bedroom.
Modern conveniences include a small but well-equipped kitchen, bathroom with spacious shower, washer-dryer, efficient electric heating, and cable television with access to English langage channels.
As for the furnishings, they include an elegant and comfortable sofa in the living room, a top quality Queen-size bed in the bedroom (divisible into two single beds if required), and a television with English language channels.
The living room, in addition to the couch, has a sort of "cushion-bed" which looks like an armchair, but converts to a single bed if needed. The apartment cannot accommodate more than three adults, but could possibly suit a couple with two very small children (There would be an additional charge).
Naturally, we supply towels, sheets, duvets, and other necessities. And for those staying for more than one week, weekly maid service is included at no extra cost.

For Gourmets...
Within a ten-minute walk of the apartment are two major attractions for food lovers: La Grande Epicerie de Paris, and the Organic Market. Gourmet magazine (March, 2001) referred to La Grande Epicerie as "The ultimate grocery store...the first place we stop when we arrive in town". The same issue of Gourmet describes the Organic Market (an open-air street market held every Sunday morning on Boulevard Raspail) as "by far the best-known and trendiest of Paris's outdoor markets".
Whether you are visiting Paris for the culture, for the shops, or for the food (or all three!), our apartment on the Rue du Bac is the perfect place for beginning and ending each day's adventures.
