Cedar Key

Cedar Key is a charming and unique town at the easternmost fringe of Florida’s Panhandle. This Gulf of Mexico fishing village is on Way Key, one of the dozens of small islands that make up the Cedar Keys. Located about 50 miles southwest of Gainesville, Cedar Key has become a favorite vacation spot for fisherman, birdwatchers and ecotourists who want to explore and enjoy some of Florida’s richest wilderness areas.

The area is also known as the Big Bend and Nature Coast. For conservationists and animal lovers, venturing into the coastal marsh, waterways and woodlands of the Cedar Keys is the adventure of a lifetime. 19 endangered or threatened species call it home. The preferred transportation modes for traversing the natural habitats are by canoe, kayak, catamaran and in hip waders.

Locals and visitors often come together to celebrate various special events and to enjoy some of the best steamed clams in the world. The most popular events are the July 4th Clamerica Celebration, the Seafood Festival and the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts. Since Cedar Key is a haven for artists, many art galleries and restaurants in town display the colorful creations of local talent.

From huge estates to quaint cottages and condos, Cedar Key has a great assortment of affordable vacation rentals.
