Fisherman Island, nr. Boothbay
Property # 9426

Property Description
An exclusive, enchanting, privilege private retreat for your family vacation

History of the Island

English fishermen originally discovered this area of Maine back in the 17th century. Fishing, ice cutting, shipbuilding, and lumber were the local industries in the 18th and 19th centuries. But by the 1800's visitors started coming to the area. Settled in the 1600s as a fishing outpost, Fisherman Island was abandoned in 1675 with the start of King Philip's war. In 1925, a Unitarian minister purchased the island and built a large stone retreat there called Greystones Hall.

Today

On Fisherman Island, a wealth of wild berries and roses attract an unusual variety of birds. Two smaller islands are home to many families of seals.

Nearby is Boothbay, the largest boating harbour north of Boston. The region boasts a magnificent shoreline that wanders over protected sand beaches, secluded coves, rocky headlands, and crashing surf.

59 miles north of Portland, Maine.
