Miami Beach, Florida Weather - January

The new year always brings lots of warm weather, sunshine and football fans to Miami. Temperatures are mild, with just a slight chance of a short rain shower. Conditions on land and sea are perfect, excellent for fishing, golf, tennis and dozens of other outdoor activities. With a wide array of special events that range from a rodeo to all of the festivities associated with one of the biggest gridiron match ups on the collegiate calendar, the Orange Bowl, visitors flock to the city famous for its pastel buildings and exciting nightlife.

The average January temperature range in Miami is 61ºF (low) to 74ºF (high). This month falls within the dry season and has an average rainfall of 2.09 inches. That’s just enough to keep everything green and not significantly interfere with outdoor activity plans. Average wind speed is 9.5 mph. Atlantic water (sea surface) temperature averages 71ºF.

Miami Beach Orange Drive Music Festival -

New Year’s Day marks the close of the 3-day festival associated with the Orange Bowl. Held in an outdoor Amphitheater, the 2012 FanFest and concerts by some of today’s top vocalists including Cee Lo Green and Ne-Yo, will draw pop music fans from around the world.

Junior Orange Bowl Parade and Festival -

In nearby Coral Gables, the new year starts out with a brass band or two, three, four, and probably more at the parade. Expect to see lots of smiling faces, colorful floats and enthusiastic crowds of spectators. This Downtown community event is a celebration of our youngest citizens and proclaims to be the world’s largest international youth sports and arts festival.

Always one of the most exciting college football games of the year, this game and its associated festivals, parades and celebrations never disappoint. Miami International Art Fair -

Art lovers, dealers, collectors and curators will gather at various area venues January 12-16, 2012 for a multi media exposition that has received world acclaim. Works by artists from around the globe will be featured at the primary showplace, on the SeaFair, a luxurious mega yacht docked at the Intercontinental Hotel Dock adjacent to Bayfront Park. Contemporary painting, photography, mixed-media, video and sculpture created by established and emerging artists will be aboard. Over 30 larger sculptures will form Sculpture Miami, a waterside exhibition in Bayfront Park.

Art Deco Weekend -

Art Deco Weekend - This annual weekend festival, scheduled for January 13 - 15, 2012, attracts a few hundred thousand people each year. Made up of 85 individual events, the parade that kicks off the celebration is always a big hit. Some of the most popular offerings are the guided walking tours of Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District, an antique furniture expo, classic car show, lecture series and fashion show. Food vendors and live music will keep attendees well fed and entertained.

Homestead Championship Rodeo and Frontier Days -

Just south of Miami, this event at the Doc DeMilly Rodeo Arena is a salute to yesteryear that is fun for the whole posse. From January 27 - 29, 2012, cowboys and cowgirls take part in a parade and compete in some of the toughest, roughest events this side of the Ponderosa. Best bets for warm January weather activities in Miami -

Afternoons are mild and the humidity is pleasant during January. That makes the month ideal for a game of tennis or a round of golf any time of day. Gorgeous golf courses throughout the area offer a variety of challenges and backdrops, with many boasting a beautiful ocean or bay view. There is no better time of year for boating, fishing and exploring the natural scene. That goes for playing a game of bocce ball and hopping on a bike to take a tour of South Beach, too. The weather is perfect for packing a picnic lunch and enjoying it at one of Miami’s attractive parks. A ferry ride to Fisher Island is always a refreshing way to enjoy a sea breeze. Since the water temperature is always in the comfortable range, water activity possibilities are almost endless. Snorkeling reveals what is just below the surface. Wind surfing is a real rush. Rent some jet skis to ride over the warm waves. A swim in the Atlantic is always delightful. Those with excess energy can test their talent in a game of beach volleyball. There are so many wonderful ways to enjoy the Miami winter scene.

With the Orange Bowl festivities and other events attracting a huge influx of visitors, it’s important to plan a January getaway to Miami early in order to avoid disappointment. Book accommodations as soon as possible. No winter clothes are needed for a January stay in Miami. Just bring along a light jacket, sunglasses and some sunscreen. With mild temperatures, seasonably comfortable humidity and plenty of sunshine, there is no finer place to start a new year than in Miami.
