Miami Beach, Florida Weather - March

The arrival of spring in Miami means more wonderful weather is on the way. While some migratory birds will be heading north, people will be flocking to Miami for rest and recreation. The March special events calendar is overflowing with exciting festivals, fairs, expos and exceptional happenings for locals and visitors to enjoy.

The average March temperature range in Miami is 65ºF (low) to 76ºF (high). During this relatively dry month, the average rainfall is 3 inches. March is tied with April as the windiest months, with an average wind speed of 10.5 mph. Atlantic water (sea surface) temperature averages 75ºF.

Miami Sailing Week -

From March 5 - 10, 2012, an international gathering of competitive sailors will vie for the prestigious BMSW regatta trophy and the Bacardi Cup on Biscayne Bay. The public is invited to see a nautical art exhibit at the Convention Center in Coconut Grove. Spectators can also watch the magnificent sailing vessels race from numerous points along the shore.

Miami International Fashion Week -

Fashionistas from around the globe will come to Miami to showcase their creations and check out the latest offerings in wearable design. While models strut their stuff on the runway at the Miami Beach Convention Center March 21 - 24, 2012, media moguls will send the word out about what the world will be wearing next fall. It is acclaimed as the biggest Hispanic and international fashion event in the U.S.

St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival -

Just north of Miami, Hollywood is home to one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in South Florida. The annual Downtown event is scheduled for 12-6 pm on March 11, 2012, with the parade stepping off at 1 pm. Expect to see lots of floats, bagpipe bands, marching bands, community groups and a leprechaun or two, if you enjoy a few liquid refreshments.

Calle Ocho Festival -

Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo -

From March 15 - April 1, 2012, forget about your diet and come to the fair for every kind of food that can be fried and for some back-to-basics fun. Strolling through the expansive fairgrounds on a sunny day is such a joy. Checking out the rides, performances and attractions for the whole family is always fun. Deering Seafood Festival on the Bay -

The historic Deering Estate is the setting for this annual family-friendly celebration. Scheduled for 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on March 25, 2012, this festival is a treat for all of the senses. Food is prepared by some of the area’s finest chefs. On the menu are such delicacies as garlic blue crabs, fried conch, lobster and tons of shrimp. Be prepared to be blown away by the tantalizing sounds of calypso and Bahamian bands. Special offerings for children include the Li’l Shrimp Kids Zone and the Deering Discovery Cove.

Miami Billfish Tournament -

The Miami Beach Marina is the home port for the March 22 - 24, 2012 annual anglers’ competition. Some come for the big prizes. Others are just looking for an excuse to spend the day under the blue sky and out in the deep. And a few are after the catch of a lifetime - a big fish to mount over the fireplace. Whatever the motivation, this event is the perfect lure for fishermen and spectators to get to the dock and see what the tide brings in.

Winter Party Festival -

From February 29 - March 5, 2012, one of world’s biggest beach parties will take place in South Florida. Thousands of sun and surf lovers in the LGBT community will enjoy fantastic food, music and camaraderie. During the day, participants take advantage of the terrific weather and try out the waves, pools, volleyball courts and other recreational facilities. When the sun goes down, the music gets turned up. Dancing goes on all night long.

Best bets for warm March weather activities in Miami -

With such pleasant air and ocean temperatures, any outdoor activity would be a winner in March. Although March tends to be breezy, golfers will especially appreciate the lower humidity and slim chance of rain. Fishing along the coast often yields a good catch. For some bigger fish, hop on a charter boat and see if the marlin are biting. Those who enjoy going for a sail will find the March winds favorable. The water temperature is just right for all kinds of sports. Body surfing and snorkeling close to shore are convenient. For a greater challenge, there is scuba diving. Parasailing, paddle boarding and other water activities are good ways to spend a sunny day in Miami. The climate in March is perfect for eco tourists to explore nearby wildlife sanctuaries, marshes and parks. A trip to the Seaquarium is always fun. An excursion to the Everglades is also worth the short drive north.

With such great weather and facilities in Miami, thousands of students will be coming to town for spring break. Booking accommodations early assures the visitor of getting the right place at the right price. A thin jacket or sweater is enough to stay warm on a cool night. It’s always advisable to bring along swimwear and sunglasses. While shorts and flip flops are great for daytime, pack some nicer outfits if you want to check out the glitzy night spots and fine dining establishments.
