Best bets for warm October weather activities in Miami -

Mild autumn days in Miami are usually accompanied by more comfortable humidity. With so many exciting and enjoyable things to do, the weather should not get in the way of spending long, lazy days at the beach or participating in dozens of activities. Gorgeous golf courses abound throughout South Florida. Tennis courts are never hard to find, and a pickup game of volleyball or basketball is always close by. Renting a bicycle and following one of the many paths and trails around the area will provide great exercise and a chance to see the sites that might not be as easily accessible by car or on foot. An afternoon in a kayak or canoe can provide a good workout and a chance to get up-close with dolphins, sea turtles, waterfowl and other creatures that inhabit coastal communities and inland waterways.

With the air and sea still pleasantly warm, water skiing, swimming, snorkeling, kite boarding and parasailing are top choices on an autumn things to do list. Other popular pastimes for visitors include trips to attractions like Jungle Island, Zoo Miami and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden.

October fishing is fantastic. With the annual mullet run underway, tarpon, snook and shark are never far behind. Farther out to sea, kingfish start making more frequent appearances at the end of the month.

Vacation Planning Tips:

Although chilly weather and totally rainy days are never in the October forecast, pack a plastic rain poncho and a light jacket for the occasional shower and cool evening. Since the fall is a popular time for international and business travelers to come to Miami, try to book accommodations as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

While the air and ocean are a few degrees cooler than in summertime, the sun is still very strong. Use sunscreen and sunglasses to protect the skin and eyes.
