East Lake - Frequently Asked Questions

Appliances: We have a microwave, coffee pot, toaster, full-sized refrigerator, full-sized electric stove/oven with the majority of your basic kitchen utensils, including basic dishes, pots and pans. I'm sorry to say that there is not a dishwasher at the East Lake Cabin.

Boat Launch: There is a public boat launch within a mile of the cabin. It is right off of MI-28 on East Lake.

Dock: Yes, you have a brand new (2012) private dock for your sole use when you stay at East Lake. There is a public launch near the cabin as well.

Firewood: You can pick up your own firewood at many different places throughout the U.P. If you plan on having many outside fires, we can have a face chord delivered to you for about $50-$75.

Grill: There is a basic, charcoal grill at East Lake. You will need to bring your own charcoal.

Internet?: Not yet. It's nice to enjoy the time away from technology.

Linens & Towels: Yes! We have basic bed linens, plus both kitchen and bath towels.

Pets at East Lake: Yes, we do accept dogs. We do ask that you please clean up after them both inside and outside the cabin. Plus, if you allow them on the furniture, we do ask that you bring your own blankets to cover the furniture. If you sleep with your dogs, please let us know which bed you will be using with them, and we’ll make sure it is ready for your sheets when you arrive. Plus, if the pet hair starts to build, we do ask that you please run the vacuum. We don’t currently charge extra for pets, as we’ve had such a positive experience with pet-owners thus far. J I sincerely hope we can keep it that way.
Honestly, the challenge with East Lake and dogs is that there isn’t a fenced yard and there is a gravel road right in front of the cabin. Now normally, people don’t drive fast on the road, yet it always made me nervous when we had our dog with us. Plus, the East Lake cabin is 0.7 miles from MI-28, so if he/she is a wanderer, you need to keep a close eye on her. It’s not close enough to hear the traffic. Also, other cabin owners around the lake do have dogs as well. They have been very nice dogs, yet if your dog doesn’t get along with other dogs, it could make your stay stressful. Our German Shepherd/Rottweiler was tough to manage around other dogs.

Swimming: The area around the dock isn't deep, yet it is more muddy than sandy.

The closest beach swimming is at Round Lake, next to the State Campground, about 5 miles southwest of the cabin.

TV: Can we just put up rabbit ears to access local TV? Since the programming has changed from analog to digital, the TV channels are currently inaccessible, even with rabbit ears. We've truly tried our best on this one. Still, there is a TV with a DVD player at the cabin, with a few movies. Feel free to bring your own movies to enjoy!
